Mercedes-Benz New Zealand has scored back-to-back victories in the New Zealand AA Motoring and the New Zealand Motoring Writers' Guild Car of the Year Awards with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet presented with the ‘Safest Car’ award in the annual assessment of the cream of New Zealand’s motoring crop. This follows on from the 2016 awards where the Mercedes-Benz E-Class won ‘Car of the Year’, and the GLC SUV won the ‘Safest Car’ award.

AA Motoring and the New Zealand Motoring Writers’ Guild jointly assessed the best cars of 2017 and concluded that the C-Class Cabriolet matched the feat of the Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV in 2016 in topping the key safety award.

The award draws on crash testing data supplied by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), which uses crash tests to analyse structural integrity and pedestrian safety. The C-Class Cabriolet received the maximum five stars for two-wheel-drive variants of C 200 and C 300 models.

The award carries significant importance as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet becomes the only 'soft-top' convertible vehicle to have ever won this award in New Zealand. This further demonstrates the level of innovation, research and development that goes into Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

“We are incredibly honoured to be presented with the Safest Car award for a second year in a row. This is a true testament to the importance that Mercedes-Benz places on keeping road users and our owners as safe as possible.” says Mercedes-Benz New Zealand General Manager, Ben Giffin.
