AMG GLC 63 S named Top Performance SUV for 2018.

Stuff.co.nz has announced the winners of its annual ‘Top Cars’ awards, with the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S claiming the top spot in its category.

The awards recognise the best vehicles to be launched between October 2017 and September 2018, and are broken down into a number of categories based on vehicle size and style.

The AMG GLC 63 S has secured one of the newer awards, named as the ‘Top Performance/Luxury SUV’ for 2018. This award holds particular prestige with the large number of SUV vehicles that have been launched over the 12 month period.

The award follows on from last year’s success when Mercedes-Benz was named New Zealand’s Top Car Brand for 2017, as well as the E-Class Cabriolet which has won the ‘Top Cabriolet/Roadster’ 2018.

Commenting on the AMG GLC 63 S, Damien O’Carroll said “It goes fast and sounds outrageous, but the chassis also gives the GLC 63 S an enormous amount of cornering finesse.”

“Wind things up a bit into one of the two Sport modes (maybe not Race unless you're actually on a track) and the engine sounds awesome, spitting and crackling with every gear change.”

The AMG GLC 63 S launched in New Zealand in May 2018, leading the Mercedes-AMG SUV range in speed and acceleration, truly embodying the AMG brand. Among the highlights is the well-known 4.0 litre bi-turbo V8 engine, paired with 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive for traction and stability.

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S range starts from $184,900 (MRRP).

The price detailed in this article is the current Manufacturer’s Recommended Retail Price (MRRP) and does not include any applicable on road costs (ORC).
