It’s no mystery why SUVs are consistently among the best-selling vehicles in New Zealand.

First and foremost, they’re versatile. For families who use their car multiple times a week, the extra room offered by an SUV is essential. Big grocery shops, school bags, sports equipment – an SUV can rise to just about any occasion.

For the same reasons, an SUV needs to be robust, comfortable and provide power on tap for when you head outside the city. Perhaps it’ll even be called on for an off-road adventure.

Whether you’re looking for a small, mid-size, electric or performance SUV, Mercedes-Benz has a vehicle to suit everyone across the range.

Mercedes-Benz GLA & EQA SUVs

Compact, versatile and stylish. The Mercedes-Benz GLA SUV and its all-electric counterpart, the Mercedes-Benz EQA SUV, are perfect for couples and small families.

There are several variants in this class – and even two high-performance models of the GLA SUV from Mercedes-AMG – each with its own unique capabilities and features. But if there’s one thing they all have in common, it’s that they are designed to handle the demands of everyday life, whether that’s commuting to work, doing the school run or tackling a day full of errands.

Thanks to their compact build, the GLA and EQA SUVs are exceptionally agile and great for weaving through busy urban and suburban streets. State-of-the-art driver assist technology – like Active Brake Assist in the GLA SUV and Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC in the EQA SUV – is standard in these vehicles and makes navigating heavy traffic and narrow parking spaces that much easier.

But don’t let their size fool you; there’s plenty of space. Both the GLA and EQA SUVs have five seats and an expandable cargo space thanks to the foldable rear seats.

Convenience is a hallmark of this class. In the GLA SUV, for example, HANDS-FREE ACCESS means you can open the boot easily even when your hands are full, while touch control buttons on the steering wheel allow for more intuitive operation of the MBUX Multimedia System whilst on the road. With the new EQA 250 SUV, you get a NEDC-tested driving range of up to 578km, and a DC fast charging from 10-80 per cent in around 30 minutes, so you can always stay on the go.

Of course, these SUVs are more than simply functional – they are also stylish travel companions, with an optional panoramic sliding sunroof, impressive paint finishes and LED rear lights. For an even more elevated look, the GLA 200 City Edition also features exclusive chrome and black styling elements and 18-inch AMG alloy wheels.

Mercedes-Benz GLB & EQB SUVs

Meet the mid-size SUVs with a dual personality. The Mercedes-Benz GLB SUV and all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQB SUV combine their sporty design and impressive seven-seat capacity with an elegant, spacious, family-friendly interior and the latest technology – both in the cabin and under the bonnet.

The higher ground clearance and more upright, traditional SUV styling of the GLB and EQB SUVs make them ideal for those who love a road trip, especially with the extra space available. The EQB 250+ SUV has a NEDC-tested range of 564km (more than enough for a weekend getaway) while the petrol variants – including the GLB 250 4MATIC and Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4MATIC – are fitted with a 48v mild-hybrid system which adds 10kW of power, reduced vibration and regenerative braking to the road-trip experience.

Inside, tech options abound. In both the GLB and EQB SUVs, the MBUX Augmented Reality for Navigation makes exploring new destinations easier, while the optionally available Burmester® surround sound system delivers a first-class soundtrack, ensuring even the shortest journeys are accompanied by a superb sound experience.

But the true appeal of this seven-seat SUV lies in the space it offers larger families; for example, the GLB SUV offers 110 litres of storage in its seven-seat configuration, 565 litres with five seats, and a massive 1800 litres in two-seat mode.

Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV

For the family that truly loves getting away from it all in Australia’s great outdoors, the five-seat, mid-size Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV feels tailor-made. All of the models in this class – the GLC 200 4MATIC, GLC 300 4MATIC, Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC and Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE –offer feature-rich interiors, loads of boot space and plenty of power for uphill stretches.

They are also built with comfort and convenience in mind. The new Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 4MATIC SUV, for example, has impressive appointments as standard. Privacy glass, heated front memory seats, and a panoramic sunroof make the cabin feel relaxed and inviting, while features like the Parking Package with a 360° camera and head-up display help make every drive that little bit easier.

Other notable features of the GLC SUV include a multifunction steering wheel with touch-sensitive control buttons, MBUX multimedia system with a tilted central display, and Personal User Profiles – enough to make those lengthier drives feel effortless. Additionally, the Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC feature takes some of the strain off you on motorways by automatically adapting your own speed to that of slower-moving vehicles travelling ahead.

With five seats and a 620-litre boot – which can be expanded to 1640 litres with the rear row of seats folded down – there’s plenty of room for your gear and your kids, plus all the paraphernalia that comes with them.

For the more adventurous, an off-road display mode shows incline, gradient, compass and altitude, while the Transparent Bonnet feature shows obstacles in front of or under the vehicle on the central screen.

Mercedes-Benz GLE & EQE SUVs

The Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV and all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV cater to practically every need – they’re spacious and versatile enough for daily errands and commutes; powerful and comfortable for long road trips or rugged terrain; and equipped with cutting-edge cabin technology for tech-savvy professionals.

With several petrol, diesel and electric variants available in this class, there’s something for everyone. The all-electric variants stand out thanks to their impressive, NEDC-tested driving ranges of up to 570km and near-silent cabins, while the petrol and diesel models amp up the performance with 48v mild-hybrid technology.

Regardless of the variant or model, the SUVs in this class are defined by their dynamic look and high-tech interiors. In the electric variants, the MBUX Hyperscreen (which is standard in the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 SUV and optional in the EQE 300 and 350 SUVs) merges three brilliant displays into a single high-resolution user interface, while the Burmester® 3D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos® takes your listening experience to a whole new level. The GLE SUV, on the other hand, always keeps you connected with a wireless charging system and smartphone integration.

Importantly, the GLE SUV can also adapt to growing families. An additional row of seats can be folded out at any time to provide space for two additional passengers or folded away for extra luggage capacity. Rear seats are also electrically adjustable (optional as part of the 7 Seat Plus Package).

Mercedes-Benz GLS & EQS SUVs

At the pinnacle of performance and style lies the full-size Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV and its all-electric counterpart, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. Both vehicles are built for comfort and provide enough room for seven adults – plus all their luggage needs.

The superbly appointed interior creates an unparalleled passenger experience. Both the GLS and EQS SUVs come with a third row of seats and optional Rear Comfort package, which includes heated seats, adjustable headrests, high-quality armrests and wireless charging. There won’t be any fussing over whose turn it is to sit in the rear.

There’s plenty of features for the driver, too. In the EQS SUV, the optional MBUX Hyperscreen extends across the width of the digital cockpit for a stunning visual experience and easy access to various controls. In the GLS SUV, the latest MBUX telematics generation comes with more computing power, improved voice recognition, and an updated layout for more intuitive operation of the vehicle.

Both vehicles also offer the optional ENERGIZING Comfort Package, which allows the driver to switch between various programs (which adjust settings like ambient lighting, seat massage, air conditioning and more) to enhance comfort and wellbeing.

G-Class

The iconic G-Class manages to balance rugged off-road capability with a premium, technology-rich interior. This combination reaches its peak in the new Mercedes-AMG G 63, a performance SUV for the serious adventurer.

The iconic boxy silhouette of the G-class remains, but with refined edges including a new front bumper design, new grille, LED headlights and taillights, larger air intakes and an integrated rear bumper and wheel arches.

For off-road excursions, the ladder-frame chassis provides exceptional rigidity and protection, while the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL system ensures the best possible suspension and constant ground clearance. The Transparent Bonnet function allows the driver to see what's directly ahead and under the front of the vehicle, invaluable when navigating obstacles or steep inclines.

Equipped with a four-litre, V8 twin-turbo engine, and a 48v mild hybrid system with an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), the new AMG G 63 can cover a 0-100km/h sprint in just 4.4 seconds – blending high-level performance with plush comfort and rugged off-road capability in a single package.

From compact to full-size, luxury to off-road, there is a Mercedes-Benz SUV for every possible definition of the words ‘utility vehicle’.
