To drivers who are looking for fuel efficiency, hybrid vehicles present a compelling option. With a hybrid car, you get the best of both worlds – the efficiency of an electric motor combined with the power of a traditional combustion engine. The result? Seamless acceleration, everyday usability and smooth power delivery.

Today’s hybrid range is more versatile than ever. At Mercedes-Benz, we offer a range of options – from mild hybrids with a modest electric boost to plug-in hybrids that allow for more substantial electric-only driving.

The difference between the two comes down to the way they are charged. A plug-in hybrid typically requires connection to a charging point in order to power up, while mild hybrids have a small electric generator that assists the engine during fuel-intensive periods such as rapid acceleration or taking off after stopping.

For drivers looking for an added boost of power, Mercedes-AMG performance hybrids deliver an exhilarating drive. Prime examples include the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE and Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE. Both are equipped with a two-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder engine combined with a rear-mounted electric motor. This combination provides a notable power boost, enabling both models to achieve a system output of up to 500kW and cover the 0-100km/h sprint in approximately 3.5 seconds.

Whether you're a city dweller seeking a comfortable and fuel-efficient travelling companion, or a performance enthusiast looking to improve your fuel efficiency, there's a hybrid Mercedes-Benz model tailored to your needs. Let’s take a closer look at three key hybrid cars in our line-up.

Mercedes-Benz C 350e

A luxurious sedan, the new Mercedes-Benz C 350e is a plug-in hybrid that integrates a 95kW, 440Nm electric motor with a 150kW, 320Nm turbocharged two-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, for a combined maximum output of 230kW of power and 550Nm of torque.

The electric motor provides an instant torque boost, complementing the petrol engine for a more responsive driving experience. The NEDC-tested electric-only driving range is 104km – making it incredibly efficient and convenient for daily commutes or city driving.

Inside, the C 350e features the refinement expected of a C-Class vehicle. The interior is spacious and well-appointed, with high-quality materials and the latest infotainment features, including an 11.9-inch portrait-style infotainment screen and 12.3-inch instrument cluster. Both feed essential information on the car’s functions and performance, including battery percentage and navigation to the nearest charger.

The C 350e’s sleek exterior is a fine example of the signature Mercedes-Benz design language – the iconic sedan silhouette and aerodynamically enhanced AMG wheels lending it a sporty look. The trunk offers ample cargo space and a flat floor – thanks to the battery being positioned beneath the rear seats – while the car’s overall size makes it ideal for urban environments.

Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ Sedan

The Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ Sedan makes a bold statement wherever it goes. This plug-in hybrid combines a turbocharged three-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor integrated into the nine-speed automatic transmission. This delivers total outputs of up to 450kW and 750Nm, meaning the AMG E 53 can sprint to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds.

In addition to the well-known driving modes Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual, there are also two hybrid-specific driving programs: Electric and Battery Hold. Electric has an NEDC-tested electric-only driving range of 100km, while Battery Hold saves the battery's charge so you can use it later.

The interior of the AMG E 53 reflects the elevated experience off the traditional E-Class, with electric and climatised seats, an immersive MBUX Superscreen, ambient lighting, four-zone climate control and a 17-speaker Burmester 4D Surround Sound system.

Externally, the AMG E 53 sports high-end styling details including an AMG-specific radiator trim with high-gloss chrome vertical slats, bigger air intakes for added cooling, new 20-inch alloy wheels, a lip spoiler, a rear apron with a diffuser, and two round double tailpipes on each side at the rear.

Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé

The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé, also available in a convertible variant, combines elegance with athleticism. Its mild-hybrid powertrain delivers a thrilling driving experience thanks to the electric boost enhancing performance.

Under the bonnet, the AMG CLE 53 is powered by a three-litre turbocharged inline-six engine, matched with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, nine-speed torque-converter automatic transmission, and 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system. This set-up produces 330kW of power and 560Nm of torque and – thanks to an over-boost function – up to 600Nm of torque is available for up to 12-second bursts. With the mild-hybrid system, the combined fuel consumption is 9.6L/100km, according to NEDC testing.

The interior of the AMG CLE 53 puts the driver’s needs first, with sporty seats and a cockpit-style layout. An AMG Performance steering wheel is trimmed in nappa leather and suede, along with embossed AMG Performance leather seats. A 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and 11.9-inch touchscreen running MBUX software equips the model with the latest in in-car technology.

When considering which Mercedes-Benz hybrid is right for you, think about your driving habits and priorities. If you frequently drive short distances and value electric-only capability, the C 350e might be the perfect fit. For those who want more power while having the ability to commute in electric mode, the AMG E 53 is ideal, while those seeking a blend of performance and efficiency will love the AMG CLE 53.
