The innovative E PERFORMANCE system from Mercedes-AMG harnesses decades of experience in creating potent turbocharged combustion engines and combines it with a cutting-edge, purpose-built onboard electrical propulsion system – one that is inspired by the hybrid setup employed by the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 team.

Backed by the innovative E PERFORMANCE system, it’s paving the way toward a more electrified future, demonstrating a seamless blend of technologies that gives drivers the very best of both worlds.

Taking the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE to another level

The E PERFORMANCE system served as the foundation for the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE Sedan. In a rather unexpected twist, the next-generation vehicle is also equipped with the world’s most powerful four-cylinder production engine – bringing an astonishing 500kW and 1020Nm to the table and promising an absolutely exceptional driving experience.

The newly minted AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE is redefining the parameters of the luxury performance sedan segment. It can sprint to 100km/h in just 3.4 seconds, yet also can be driven in pure electric mode for up to 15 kilometres, enhancing the halo model’s everyday usability.

The advantages of the E PERFORMANCE system are not merely measured in outputs, nor efficiency gains. In the case of the AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE, the fundamental architectural shift to a front-mounted four-cylinder engine, two-speed electric motor mounted over the rear axle, and lightweight high-performance battery, delivers a harmonious front-rear balance that adds incredible poise to the driving experience than ever before.

Another advantage? A battery that can draw power from on-the-go regeneration or from plugging into external power sources. In the AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE, it’s able to generate continuous output of 70kW and peak output of 150kW for up to 10 seconds, in addition to the output from the combustion engine.

The AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE pairs the renowned AMG-developed 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system and AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension, plus rear-axle steering for improved agility in both fast directional changes and low-speed manoeuvring.

Inspired by F1 technology

The E PERFORMANCE system was developed via a lively exchange of expert knowledge between the High Performance Powertrains (HPP) engine shop of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team in Brixworth, UK, and Mercedes-AMG based in Affalterbach, Germany.

The collaboration brings F1-like characteristics to Mercedes-AMG’s road-going models. Think spontaneous power delivery and torque build-up, while an exhaust gas turbocharger eliminates turbo lag from the combustion engine, and the Electric Drive Unit (EDU) pushes powerfully from a standstill. Plus, maximum power is always available when the driver demands it.

Vehicles such as the AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE also feature AMG Real Performance Sound, in which the actual sound of the combustion engine is recorded via a pressure sensor in the exhaust system and further enriched before it is emitted in the interior via the entertainment sound system.

The groundbreaking hybrid system represents a huge leap into the future of sustainable performance, accompanied by an array of game-changing improvements to the driving experience.
