Finding a car that meets all of your needs can be a challenge. For many of us, there simply aren’t enough hours in the day to research and browse all the different models – so naturally, I was very excited when I heard about the opening of the new Mercedes-Benz Digital Showroom.

 

To find out how it works, I booked a timeslot with a request to see the latest version of the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC. It’s a model that fascinates me – and not only because it’s a performance-oriented car. The updated and newly arrived C 43 also incorporates some of the same Formula 1-inspired turbocharging technology that will power the new fast-and-furious Mercedes-AMG C 63 S 4MATIC+, which is set to arrive later in 2023.

 

A personalised tour

 

At the appointed time, Product Expert Jack gives me a call to talk through the easy video enablement process. This includes entering a PIN number to ensure we’re on a secure video connection that only the two of us can access.

 

The camera on my device is automatically disabled for the duration of the consultation – I can see and hear Jack, but he only hears my voice. The car is parked in the Mercedes-Benz Digital Showroom, a beautifully appointed space featuring recycled panels and clad with special lighting to better illuminate the star of the show: in this case, the C 43.

What happens now is entirely up to me – Jack has been extensively trained to understand this car’s specifications and features, and he’s happy to show-and-tell anything I’m interested in. We agree he’ll start with an exterior walk around, giving him the opportunity to highlight some of the C 43s key features. Then he’ll talk me through the interior, which has undergone a significant transformation since the previous C 43 model.

 

 

Along the way, we visit the back seat, where he’s able to show me how his 192-centimetre frame fits comfortably into the seat directly behind his own driver’s position, with ample leg and headroom to spare. It’s a convincing demonstration of the space that’s available. He also shows me the large, long boot space, where extra lighting has been installed to better highlight its proportions.

No detail’s too small

 

After we’ve chatted through my remaining questions, Jack offers a co-browsing session and transfers the video feed to the Mercedes-Benz Configurator. This online tool digitally renders the vehicle on my screen, along with a selection of paint colours, upholstery choices and trim options, and optional packages. Jack can virtually install any combination, then display the vehicle from a number of different angles so I can decide if I’d like to make it my own.

 

Finally, we take a look at what’s currently in stock at Mercedes-Benz retailers around the country, and a matching tool searches for C 43's that closely fit my requirements. If I like what I see, I can order one on the spot and have it delivered to my chosen retailer. It’s a fuss-free arrangement, thanks to the standardised pricing system that was introduced in 2022 – just another way to take the hard work out of buying a car.

Of course, if I’m after further personalisation than what is already offered, I can request for my car to be built to order and shipped to a local retailer. And because a new car – especially a new Mercedes-Benz – is one of life’s more significant purchases, Jack is also happy to help me book a local test drive.

 

The upshot is that in the space of just 30 minutes, I’ve learned quite a lot about the C 43, without even leaving my house.

 

With so many of our purchases already being performed digitally, the Mercedes-Benz Digital Showroom is the logical next step – with the capability to save a significant amount of time on your next car purchase.
