AMG – the names behind these three letters are at the starting point of the lightning development from a two-man operation into the global Mercedes-AMG Performance brand.

At AMG development goes deeper than any numbers can express.

An AMG is not simply a Mercedes with more horsepower – it is a completely independent vehicle in its own right. In order to achieve this objective, AMG engineers are already present in the concept stage when the Mercedes-Benz development team begins to create a new model. This is essential to ensure that AMG high performance technology can be integrated in the vehicle and harmonised with its performance profile.

Engineers start off by developing a basic vehicle set-up and then take care of the details in the subsequent stage: first of all chassis and axles, braking and damping systems, secondly the entire drivetrain including transmission and engine – and thirdly interventions in the bodyshell, such as increasing body rigidity.

Mercedes-AMG develops the future.

The result is a high-performance vehicle with over 500 AMG-specific parts. After exhaustive testing on test benches and on racetracks and roads across all climate zones it behaves exactly as defined at the outset. And with the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive Mercedes-Benz impressively demonstrates key technologies of the future: the most powerful electrically-powered vehicle in the world.

The AMG Performance engines Manufaktur.

The heart of each AMG is, of course, the engine. In order for the power units to release adrenaline in great quantities and cope with maximum demands for an extended automobile life, every single engine is made individually in the Manufaktur. Here each engine is assembled in hand-crafted perfection by a single technician in line with the philosophy "One Man – One Engine" – and this is documented by the technician's signature on the AMG engine plate.

The most fuel-efficient V8 petrol engine in the world comes from Affalterbach.

In the AMG, top level performance, superior torque and exceptional efficiency are all inseparably interwoven. The AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine and the AMG 5.5-litre V8 naturally-aspirated engine, the latter featuring AMG Cylinder Management, are "best in class" in terms of fuel consumption, output and torque.
