Events and Sponsorships - Mercedes Trophy

The MercedesTrophy is hailed as one of the most prestigious amateur golf tournaments in the world. Each year over 60,000 customers from 31 countries compete with the hopes of qualifying for the MercedesTrophy World Final held at the birthplace of the automobile, Stuttgart, Germany.

The journey begins with an invitation to attend one of nine local retailer tournaments with the top qualifiers moving on to the MercedesTrophy National Final. The National Final is a two day tournament held at the beautiful Millbrook Resort in Queenstown where participants will have the opportunity to compete for a number of exclusive prizes. Each day a brand new Mercedes-Benz is on offer for whoever can sink the elusive Hole in One, and the person to hit their ball closest to the line in the ‘Drive to the Major’ straightest drive competition will win an all expenses paid trip to The Open at Royal St. George’s.

Ultimately the top three qualifiers at the National Final will compete for the exclusive opportunity to represent New Zealand at the MercedesTrophy World Final enjoying a week of Mercedes-Benz hospitality and experiences.

We wish all participants the very best this year!

The Masters in Augusta

This prestigious golf tournament takes place every year in April, opening the major tournament season. Ever since 1934 the golfing elite of the world has met at the Augusta National Golf Club in the US State of Georgia to measure forces on one of the hardest par 72 courses of the US PGA tour. The winner not only wins fame and a lifelong membership in the renowned Augusta National Club, but also the coveted Green Jacket.

The history of The Masters Tournament in Augusta can be felt everywhere. A famous example is the "Eisenhower Tree" on the 17th fairway. Former US president Dwight D. Eisenhower hit the tree so many times that, in his frustration, he officially requested that it be removed. The request was refused, but the tree was named after him.

Through its particular history, the Masters tournament uniquely combines sport perfection with tradition. Values upheld by Mercedes-Benz, too. That's why Mercedes-Benz supports the Masters tournament since 2008 with full conviction.

The Open Championship

The Open Championship has been held in Britain since 1860. It is the only Major to be held outside the United States, and is also known as the "British Open". The term "open" refers to the fact that amateurs can participate in the tournament along with professionals.

Mercedes-Benz increased its support of both professional and amateur golf by becoming an official patron of The Open in 2011. Through the local MercedesTrophy tournament, amateur golfers from New Zealand get the opportunity to compete in The Open. “Drive to the Major” is a segment of the National Final where the winner of a straightest-drive competition wins an all-inclusive trip, including entry to the tournament, courtesy of Mercedes-Benz.

PGA Championship

The PGA Championship is the last major tournament of the calendar year played in mid-August. In its 90-year-long history the PGA Championship has grown into one of the greatest sporting events, with over 250,000 people visiting the fairways, to marvel at the skill of the world’s greatest golfers.

Mercedes-Benz has been an official patron of The PGA of America since 2009. Through this partnership Mercedes-Benz supports world-class events, player development and philanthropic outreach. Mercedes-Benz is also a partner of the Senior PGA Championship, which has been held continuously since 1937, making it the longest-standing Major in the field of Senior golfing.
