Events and Sponsorships - Mercedes Trophy

The MercedesTrophy is hailed as one of the most prestigious amateur golf tournaments in the world. Each year more than 60,000 customers from over 30 countries compete with the hopes of qualifying for the MercedesTrophy World Final, held at the birthplace of the automobile in Stuttgart, Germany.

The journey begins with an invitation to attend one of nine local retailer tournaments with the top qualifiers moving on to the MercedesTrophy National Final. The National Final is a two day tournament where participants have the opportunity to compete for a number of exclusive prizes. Each day a brand new Mercedes-Benz is on offer for whoever can sink the elusive Hole in One, and the person to hit their ball closest to the line in the ‘Drive to the Major’ straightest drive competition receives an all expenses paid trip to The Open.

Ultimately, the top three qualifiers at the National Final will represent New Zealand at the MercedesTrophy World Final enjoying a week of Mercedes-Benz hospitality and experiences.

Thank you to Mercedes-Benz Financial Services for their ongoing and generous support of the tournament – through this partnership the MercedesTrophy tournament is a truly remarkable experience.

Major tournaments

The Masters in Augusta
Mercedes-Benz – a proud Global Sponsor of the Masters.

This prestigious golf tournament takes place every year in April, opening the major tournament season. Ever since 1934 the golfing elite of the world has met at the Augusta National Golf Club in the US State of Georgia to measure forces on one of the hardest par 72 courses of the US PGA tour. The winner not only wins fame and a lifelong membership in the renowned Augusta National Club, but also the coveted Green Jacket.

The history of The Masters Tournament in Augusta can be felt everywhere. A famous example is the "Eisenhower Tree" on the 17th fairway. Former US president Dwight D. Eisenhower hit the tree so many times that, in his frustration, he officially requested that it be removed. The request was refused, but the tree was named after him.

Through its particular history, the Masters tournament uniquely combines sport perfection with tradition. Values upheld by Mercedes-Benz, too. That's why Mercedes-Benz became an international partner of the Masters in 2008 and is now proud to be one of three Global Sponsors since the 2014 Masters tournament.

The Open Championship
Mercedes-Benz – a proud Patron of The Open.

Since 1860, The Open has been played at fourteen of the world’s greatest and most demanding links courses and has produced moments of history and a legacy of great champions. It is the original championship and golf’s truest test, reflecting the sport in its purest form.

From the very outset Mercedes-Benz has used its partnership with The Open Championship as a further highlight to benefit customers. During the MercedesTrophy, all participants take part in "Drive to the Major" a straightest drive competition. The person to hit their ball closest to the line wins an unforgettable week at The Open Championship and has the opportunity to play for a spot in the Monday After Event, which takes place immediately after The Open Championship.
